Max Power R450 Hydraulic Retractable Thruster
The Max Power R450 hydraulic retractable thruster is designed for performance sailing and motor yachts from 80 to 136 ft. Unlike a fixed tunnel thruster, the R450 deploys when lateral thrust is required and retracts into the vessel when not in operation, keeping the unit enclosed and avoiding additional hydrodynamic drag.
The R450 uses hydraulic operation and a Duo 5-blade propeller configuration. It is available with 34cc and 40cc hydraulic motor options, allowing the correct variant to be selected according to the vessel’s hydraulic system and installation requirements.
R450 Retractable System
The R450 uses a double wishbone mechanism that moves the turbine along a vertical axis while limiting the hull opening required for deployment.
Its gas-spring lifting system and positive locking mechanism are designed to keep the thruster securely stowed. If hydraulic pressure is lost, the gas-spring system allows the unit to close rather than fall into the deployed position.
Built-in weak zones within the mechanism are designed to help protect hull integrity if the deployed unit is accidentally fouled by objects such as ground lines or anchor chains. Silent-block mountings between the hull door and turbine help reduce vibration while maintaining the structural connection between the components.
Hydraulic Configuration
The R450 is a hydraulic retractable thruster, not an electric retractable model. The selected motor and vessel hydraulic system must therefore be matched correctly before installation.
